As long as we have wine, 2017 will be fine. Anyone with me?!
Now that the holidays are over, it's time for real life. This time of year we tend to slow down in the tasting room so we use the time to plan out our spring and summer events. While we dream about summer we like to sip on a warm spiced mulled wine! Here’s an awesome recipe we pulled from bonappetit.com. We made it our own, by using our Quenett Merlot 2010 and our 2010 Boiler house Port!
To make things easier we have our January special as 2 bottles of 2010 Merlot and a bottle of Port for retail $75 or $60 for club members. See below for the full recipe.
20 whole cloves
2 tangerines, clementines, or small oranges
2 750-ml bottles Merlot
3 cups fresh apple cider
8 Lady apples (optional)
2 cinnamon sticks plus 8 for garnish (garnish optional)
2 green cardamom pods, cracked
2 cups Port
Press stem (pointed) end of 10 cloves into each tangerine, piercing through the skin. Place tangerines, wine, cider, Lady apples (if using), 2 cinnamon sticks, and cardamom pods in a large pot. Bring to a bare simmer over medium-low heat; cook gently for 20 minutes. DO AHEAD: Mulled wine can be made 2 hours ahead. Cover and let stand at room temperature. Rewarm gently over medium-low heat before continuing.
Stir in Port. Divide among glasses; garnish each with a cinnamon stick and a Lady apple, if desired. (Here’s the official link http://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/mulled-wine )
In other news, we rang in the New Year with a new full time employee! Please welcome Jess Chappell next time you’re in the tasting room.
We wish our lovely Julie Breckterfield (club manger) well as she decided to fly in the sky with Alaskan airlines. We will miss her dearly but we know that she will excel as a flight attendant and will have the greatest experiences traveling the world. Cheers to Julie!
Also, on a more personal note we welcomed baby Cora to the Sunshine Mill family! She was born December 28th, 2016 at 8:01pm and weighed 6lbs 12oz. This is the Martin’s first grand baby and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with Natasha and Riley Skov!
